NADRA’s New Passport Policy for Kids: What Every Parent Needs to Know

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced significant changes to its identity and registration document policies concerning families throughout Pakistan.

NADRA has introduced new measures aimed at strengthening the security and legal recognition of identity documents for children and families.

One of the key changes is the discontinuation of the B-Form for children’s passport applications. Parents must now obtain a Child Registration Certificate (CRC) when applying for a passport for their child.

According to NADRA officials, this move is designed to ensure that every child has a unique and verified identity, enhancing the accuracy and security of the national database.

Additionally, the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) has now been granted official legal status, extending its role beyond simple documentation. The FRC can now be presented in legal matters such as inheritance claims and court proceedings, where it will serve as recognized evidence.

The updated version of the FRC also reflects a broader range of family structures. It now provides comprehensive details for families that include parents and siblings, married couples with children, and men with multiple spouses—listing each marriage and its respective family members separately.

Pakistani citizens are issued a crucial document by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) known as the Family Registration Certificate (FRC), following the verification of their personal information.

It is important to note that applicants are now required to provide an affidavit confirming the accuracy of the information they have submitted. The FRC is generated solely based on the records maintained by NADRA.

Under the updated regulations, families are categorized into three types: Alpha (by birth), Beta (by marriage), and Gamma (by adoption). Individuals must ensure that any unregistered family members are added to the record. Corrections and the removal of incorrect entries can be made through NADRA offices or its mobile application.

Unlike the previous system, the new FRC format offers greater clarity by including complete information for men with multiple marriages, helping to eliminate confusion and inconsistencies.
